Korea-Spain Joint Project: Daliworks at the ALARAD Plenary Meeting
A Korean consortium led by the Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI) and a Spanish consortium led by CT (a research institute based in Spain) launched the project “Development of AI Service Platform Technology for Edge Computing-Enabled Smart Farm Precision Agriculture” in July 2021, with the goal of developing an AI-based precision agriculture platform. In Korea, KETI, Daliworks, NareTrends, Sejong University, and Kyungpook National University form the consortium, while CT, BOHORQUEZ, and the University of SALAMANCA are taking part on the Spanish side, with the project scheduled to run through June 2024.
The first plenary meeting, long postponed due to COVID-19, was held over three days starting August 29 in Madrid, Spain. The Korean consortium aims to build an AI-based smart farm precision agriculture platform centered on strawberry growth, while the Spanish consortium aims to build an AI-based smart farm DSS system for winery grape growth.
At the plenary meeting, each participant presented their research results to date and future research plans according to their role. Daliworks explained its approach to edge computing-based data collection and processing on the Thingplus platform, along with how AI algorithms will be applied for precision agriculture.
The Spanish consortium showed strong interest in using Thingplus, noting in particular how appealing it is that the IoT devices they use are supplied by Libelium, a Daliworks partner, making integration easy.
The Thingplus platform is drawing significant attention from both consortiums because it goes a step beyond monitoring-centered smart farms, providing an optimal growing environment for strawberries and grapes through AI-based automatic control of irrigation systems.
At the B2B business meetings held alongside the plenary, we introduced Spanish companies to a range of business cases built on the Thingplus platform, and use cases such as remote robot control and motor diagnostics drew strong interest.
Going forward, Daliworks plans to build a variety of IoT service cases in Spain together with its partner Libelium.
