Installation is simple, and updates and fixes happen instantly, an advantage for maintenance as well. And because payment is by subscription or by usage, billed monthly or annually, providers earn recurring revenue while users face low upfront costs and can even choose their own application replacement cycle.<\/span><\/p>\n

Concrete Examples of SaaS<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Looking first from the perspective of individual users,<\/span> iCloud, Google Drive, and Naver’s MYBOX, which many people use to store and manage photos, videos, and other content, are flagship examples of SaaS. If you have used a web-based mail service such as Gmail, you have already experienced the SaaS model. So are the wildly popular <\/span>OTT (Over-the-Top) services<\/span> such as Netflix sweeping the world today: rather than owning the content, you use as much of the internet’s vast content as you want through cloud infrastructure on a subscription basis.<\/span><\/p>\n

When you use these services, you typically log in to your account over the internet in a web browser. The mail software lives on the service provider’s network, and your messages are stored there as well. You can access your mail and stored messages through a web browser on a computer or any internet-connected device. The examples above are services provided free for personal use.<\/span><\/p>\n

For organizations,<\/span> productivity apps such as business messengers, mail, collaboration, video conferencing, and calendar services can be rented, along with sophisticated business applications such as CRM (customer relationship management), ERP (enterprise resource planning), and document management.
